Basic (Clear-Text) Authentication Using SSL

Basic (clear-text) authentication using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) uses clear text through an SSL-encrypted channel.

Connecting to Windows 2000 Server

When you connect to Windows 2000 Server using basic (clear-text) authentication using SSL, the Connect as user account is specified as an object in Active Directory. The account name must be in the following format:

CN=account name,OU=organizational unit, DC=domain

For example:

CN=DavidC,OU=Admin,OU=Europe,DC=Contoso,DC=Com

-Or-

CN=account name,OU=container,DC=domain,DC=domain

For example:

CN=DavidC,CN=Users,DC=Contoso,DC=Com

Connecting to Exchange

When you connect to Exchange, the Connect as user account is specified as an account in the Windows domain. Objects in the Users container are under CN=Users. The account name must be in the following format:

CN=account name,DC=NT domain name

For example:

CN=gladys,DC=Redmond
