Replicate Only Public Folders that are Members of a Distribution List

When replicating public folders from Exchange to Windows, you can choose to replicate only public folders that are members of Distribution Lists. These public folders keep a record of e-mail sent to Distribution Lists. If these public folders are not replicated to Active Directory, e-mail sent to those Distribution Lists by means of public folders is not delivered.

Selecting this option limits the number of public folders that are replicated from an Exchange organization to Active Directory. This option is recommended if replicating all of the public folders negatively affects performance or requires too much disk space.   For example:

If a corporation has 50,000 public folders, but only 500 are members of Distribution Lists, you can choose to replicate only those 500 public folders. Because e-mail is delivered to those public folders, the contents of the public folders are complete. The remaining public folders can be replicated at a later time.

To replicate only public folders that are members of a Distribution List:

  1. On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Active Directory Connector.
  2. In the details pane, double-click the Connection Agreement for which you want to select replication options.
  3. On the Advanced tab, select the This is an Inter-Organizational Connection Agreement check box. When this check box is selected, options to replicate public folders becomes available on the From Exchange tab.
  4. On the From Exchange tab, in Select the objects you want to replicate, click Public folders.

This option replicates all mailable public folders to Active Directory as contacts. Mailbox-enabled users with mailboxes on Exchange 2000 servers can select these public folders and can send e-mail to them by choosing them from the Address Book.

  5. To replicate only public folders that are members of Distribution Lists, select the Replicate only Public Folders that are members of Distribution Lists check box.
