Replicate Only Public Folders that
are Members of a Distribution List
When replicating public folders from Exchange to Windows, you
can choose to replicate only public folders that are members of
Distribution Lists. These public folders keep a record of e-mail
sent to Distribution Lists. If these public folders are not
replicated to Active Directory, e-mail sent to those Distribution
Lists by means of public folders is not delivered.
Selecting this option limits the number of public folders that
are replicated from an Exchange organization to Active Directory.
This option is recommended if replicating all of the public folders
negatively affects performance or requires too much disk space.
If a corporation has 50,000 public folders,
but only 500 are members of Distribution Lists, you can choose to
replicate only those 500 public folders. Because e-mail is
delivered to those public folders, the contents of the public
folders are complete. The remaining public folders can be
replicated at a later time.
To replicate only public folders that are members of a
On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to
Administrative Tools, and then click Active Directory
In the details pane, double-click the Connection Agreement for
which you want to select replication options.
On the Advanced tab, select the This is an
Inter-Organizational Connection Agreement check box. When this
check box is selected, options to replicate public folders becomes
available on the From Exchange tab.
On the From Exchange tab, in Select the objects you
want to replicate, click Public folders.
This option replicates all mailable public folders to Active
Directory as contacts. Mailbox-enabled users with mailboxes on
Exchange 2000 servers can select these public folders and can send
e-mail to them by choosing them from the Address Book.
To replicate only public folders that are members of
Distribution Lists, select the Replicate only Public Folders
that are members of Distribution Lists check box.
