Select a Replication Direction

For recipient Connection Agreements, you can choose the direction of replication based on the directory management requirements of your organization. You can select one-way or two-way replication. During one-way replication, directory information is replicated from Exchange to Windows or from Windows to Exchange. During two-way replication, directory information is replicated to and from both directories.

Note   All public folder Connection Agreements require two-way replication. The direction is automatically selected when you create a public folder Connection Agreement, and you cannot change it.

For more information about ADC one-way and two-way replication, see Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Planning and Installation.

To select a replication direction:

  1. If you have not yet opened the Connection Agreement in Active Directory Connector, do the following:
    1. On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Active Directory Connector.
    2. In the details pane, double-click the Connection Agreement for which you want to set a replication direction
    3. .
  2. On the General tab, under Replication direction, click one of the following replication directions:

Note   To have the option of adding Exchange mailboxes when creating new users in Active Directory Users and Computers, you must configure a two-way Connection Agreement or a one-way Connection Agreement from Windows to Exchange. A one-way Connection Agreement from Exchange to Windows does not provide you with the option of adding a mailbox for the user because one already exists.
