Merge Accounts

After Active Directory Account Cleanup Wizard merges duplicate accounts, you cannot undo the merge operation.

Caution   Familiarize yourself with the results of merging Active Directory objects before starting the merge process to ensure that you understand how object attributes are merged and deleted.

To merge accounts in Active Directory:

  1. Display a list of merge operations on the Review Merging Accounts screen.

    Do one of the following:

Use Active Directory Account Cleanup Wizard to search for duplicate accounts in Active Directory. The search results display a list of suggested merge operations.

    -Or-

Select duplicate accounts manually in Active Directory. The duplicate accounts that you select display as merge operations the wizard can perform.

    -Or-

Import a list of accounts from a .csv file you previously saved. This file displays a list of merge operations.

  2. Click Next.
  3. On the Begin Merging Accounts screen, click Begin the merge process now.
  4. If you are sure you want to perform the merge operations at this time, in the warning box, click Yes.
  5. If you want to export a list of accounts, click Export merge operation to a file, click Browse, and then select a file name and a location for the file.
  6. To begin the merge process, click Next. To stop the merge process, click Cancel.

Important   If you use Connection Agreements in your Exchange environment, you must reconfigure your Connection Agreements after running the wizard. This ensures that Active Directory Connector (ADC) will properly replicate objects and attributes to the new locations of objects that have been merged.
