Use the Wizard to Search for Duplicate Accounts

Active Directory Account Cleanup Wizard automatically searches your entire forest for duplicate accounts. If you do not want the wizard to search your entire forest for duplicate accounts, you can specify the containers and sub-containers in which you want the wizard to search.

Note  The amount of time it takes to search for duplicate accounts depends on the size and number of duplicate accounts in Active Directory.

To search for duplicate accounts using the wizard:

  1. On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click Active Directory Cleanup Wizard.
  2. On the Welcome to the Active Directory Account Cleanup Wizard screen, click Next.
  3. On the Identify Merging Accounts screen, select the containers and sub-containers that you want to search by doing one of the following:

  4. If you only want to base the search for duplicate accounts on objects that have been created by Active Directory Connector (ADC), ensure that the Search based on Exchange mailboxes only check box is selected. (This check box is selected by default.)

Note   You can extend the search for duplicate accounts in Active Directory. To include objects that have been created by ADC, mail connectors (for example, MS Mail Connector), and other tools, click to clear the Search based on Exchange mailboxes only check box.

  5. To begin the search, click Next. To stop the search, click Cancel.
