Switch an Exchange Organization from Mixed to Native Mode

After upgrading an existing organization to Exchange 2000 or creating a new Exchange organization, if you are certain you will not need to install an Exchange 5.5 server or connector, you can switch your organization to native mode.

To switch an Exchange organization from mixed to native mode:

  1. Start System Manager
On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
  2. Expand the tree to expose the organization that you want to switch to native mode.
  3. Right-click the organization, and then click Properties.

Important   If your Exchange organization is in native mode, you cannot change it back to mixed mode or install earlier versions of Exchange.

  4. In Change Operations mode, click Change Mode. Click Yes if you are sure that you want to permanently switch this organization's mode to native mode.
  5. Reboot the Exchange server. This will restart all services on the computer, ensuring all native mode features will be enabled.
