You can provide basic security for a chat community by making
the following modifications on the chat community's General
tab:
Under Connection limits, the Maximum total
connections and Maximum anonymous connections boxes
allow you to control the number of connections to the chat
community. The number in Maximum total connections must be
larger than or equal to the number in Maximum anonymous
connections.
NoteMaximum total
connections for each chat community on the server can also be
set on the IRCX Properties Chat Community tab. If the value
set on the chat community's General tab is different from
the one set on the IRCX Properties Chat Community tab, the
server will choose the lesser of the two values.
Clearing the Accept new connections check box does not
affect active connections, but allows you to lessen the number of
users on the chat community naturally.
Modifications on the community's Security tab allow you
to designate security permissions for the chat community.
User Authentication
Entries on the chat community's Authentication tab allow you to specify
an acceptable authentication method.
If you select the Anonymous access check box, the least
amount of security is provided, since no password will be required
from users logging on to the chat community.
If you select the Basic authentication check box, the
chat user will be required to log on from the chat client with a
password, using the Pass or User commands.
If you select the Windows security package check box,
this activates a Windows 2000 SSPI package on your server. Windows NT
LAN Manager (NTLM) is the standard security package supported.
Note The SSPI package in use
must be compatible with your chat client. (A chat user can verify
the SSPI package in use on the server from the chat client using
the Ircx command.)
The presence of a compatible SSPI package on the server requires
the chat client to automatically begin the logon process with the
AUTH command.
User Classes and Bans
You can also create a user class
or establish a user ban to provide chat network security by
imposing restrictions on classes of users or by banning individual
users.
