Create a User Class

A user class is a logical collection of chat users. You create a user class to protect a chat community or chat server and its users, or to control a group of users' ability to log on to the server, create or join dynamic channels, or become channel owners or hosts.

To create a user class:

1. Start System Manager
   On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
2. Navigate to the Classes folder for the chat community where you want to create the user class.

   Chat Communities

   1. Chat_community_name
   2. Classes
3. Right-click Classes, click New, and then click Class.
4. In Name, type the name of the class.
5. Modify the user class properties on the tabs:
   • General.  Use to name the class, and also to define the Member scope, either by selecting the three fields of the Identity mask (Nickname, User name, and Domain or IP address), or by selecting the IP address and Subnet mask.

     Note   The Identity mask options accept the asterisk (*) and the question mark (?) as wildcard characters.

     Nickname	User name	Domain or IP address
     "bogus"	*	*
     		With these entries, the User Class applies to the Nickname "bogus" from anywhere.
     ?	?	"*.com"
     		With these entries, the User Class applies to all users from the root .com domain.
     *	*	"microsoft.com"
     		With these entries, the User Class applies to all users from "microsoft.com."

     Tip   To make the IP address appear on the class's General tab, select IP address, click DNS lookup, and then in Type the Domain Name System (DNS) host name that will be used to generate an IP address, type the host name.

   • Access.  Use to apply the user class to a Logon method, to four Restrictions options, or to a specific time period. You can also click Hide class members' IP address/DNS names on the Access tab.
   • Settings.  Use to enable attack protection, to limit the number of channels and IP connections for class members, or to impose delays on the processing of incoming messages and nickname changes.
