On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Performance.
  2. In the console tree, click System Monitor, and then click + (Add) on the toolbar.
  3. In Select counters from computer, select the server you want to examine.
  4. In Performance Object, click the Chat Service object.
  5. Click Select counters from list.
  6. Click the Total Authentication Failures counter.
  7. Click Select instances from list, select the server, and then click Add.
  8. Click Close.
  9. If you observe a high number of authentication failures, verify that your security software is operating correctly.
