Hosting Chat Communities

Host a Moderated Event

Internet service providers (ISPs) with a large number of subscribers often have the opportunity to stage an online event, such as a business conference or a live chat with celebrities. The procedures in this scenario enable you to set up a large online event in which chat users around the world can participate.

To set up a large online event:

  1. Start System Manager
On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
  2. Navigate to the chat community where you want to hold the event.

  3. Set up the speakers' channel.
  4. Set up the discussion channel.
  5. Give the Host password to the event speakers.

Result

At the appointed meeting time, the event speakers use a chat client to join the channel using the Host password, which enables them to post messages to, and see messages from, all the attendees. The chat users attending the meeting can see the messages posted by the event speakers, but can't send messages among themselves on the speaker's channel. The chat users can, however, send messages in the discussion channel you have set up for that purpose.
