Performance Monitoring

The best monitoring tool and method for your organization depends on the type of information you need; for example, if you want to measure the overall load on your Web server, you can use System Monitor to create a week-long plot, showing information such as the number of computer connections and file transfers. If you notice your server's performance is slowing down, you can check for errors in Event Viewer, the tool for viewing the logs that Windows 2000 generates.

All tools that you can use to monitor IIS can also monitor HTTP virtual servers. The following monitoring tools, which Windows 2000 includes, can provide both detailed and summary information about server performance:

You can also monitor your server by examining logs generated by IIS. These logs extend beyond those generated by Windows 2000. For information about logs that IIS generates, see the IIS documentation.
