Supporting Messaging Clients

RFC Conformity

Standards that guide the development of the Internet are referred to as Request for Comments (RFC). Exchange supports any IMAP client that is RFC 2060 compliant. This means that Exchange and IMAP4 clients follow the same guidelines on how to connect, authenticate, and complete other client/server interactions. Specifying that a server or client is RFC compliant guarantees that when a client issues a command for server data, the server can interpret the format of the request and return a response that the client can interpret.
