Disable Basic Authentication

IMAP4 clients cannot log on to the Exchange server until an authentication methods that the client supports is enabled on the server. If you want to use a method that is more secure or that doesn't prompt the user for a name and password, you can disable Basic Authentication.

To disable Basic Authentication:

  1. Start System Manager
    on the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
  2. Navigate to IMAP4.

  3. In the console tree, right-click a virtual server, and then click Properties.
  4. On the Access tab, click Authentication.
  5. Make sure Basic Authentication is not selected. If it is, click Basic Authentication to clear the check box, and then click OK.
