Create Newsgroup Expiration Policies

You can limit how long articles are stored on a newsgroup's NNTP server by defining expiration policies. An expiration policy can apply to a single newsgroup or to all newsgroups on the virtual server.

Important   If newsgroup content is saved in Information Store, expiration policies set at the Information Store level cancel any expiration policy set at the newsgroup level. If you set an expiration policy for newsgroup content and a different expiration policy is set in Information Store for the same content, only the Information Store policy is used.

If you do not specify an expiration policy for a newsgroup, you should delete articles manually when you no longer need them.

To create an expiration policy:

  1. Start System Manager
On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
  2. Navigate to NNTP virtual server.
