Create Additional NNTP Virtual Servers

You can create additional virtual servers to host multiple domains on a single server, or you can create a public and private virtual server and keep them separate for authentication purposes. Each virtual server must have a unique IP address and TCP port combination. Because using a single IP address for multiple NNTP virtual servers requires the client to be specially configured to use the non-standard TCP port, this configuration is not recommended. Before you create a new NNTP server, NNTP Service must be running.

Tip   When you create an NNTP virtual server, you are prompted to type two directory paths: a path for internal files and a path for newsgroup files. If possible, put these two files on different disk partitions. Keeping the files on separate disk partitions reduces the chance of corruption if the partition runs out of disk space.

To create a new NNTP virtual server:

  1. Start System Manager
On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
  2. Navigate to Protocols.
