Create a Newsfeed from Slaves to Master

Master newsfeeds, or master feeds for short, send local posts to get article IDs. Requests are sent to the master server, which manages all article IDs to ensure that all newsgroups are synchronized. To create a master newsfeed, you use New NNTP Feed Wizard to specify the server that assigns article IDs. You do not define a server directly as a master or slave; you only need to indicate that the server assigns article IDs.

To create a newsfeed from the slave server to a master server:

  1. Start System Manager
On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
  2. Navigate to an NNTP virtual server.

    Servers

    1. Server
    2. Protocols
    3. NNTP
    4. NNTP virtual server
  3. In the console tree, right-click Feeds, point to New, and then click Feed.
  4. Complete New NNTP Feed Wizard to identify a master server.

Tip   Remember that you are using the wizard to specify the remote server that will be a master. When you select the Remote server role, choose Master.

  5. Repeat these steps for each slave server that you want to receive articles from the master server.
