Supporting Messaging Clients

Integration with IIS

In general, the protocols that Exchange uses to access Information Store, such as NNTP, have been redesigned in Exchange 2000 and are now integrated with IIS in Windows 2000. You administer these protocols using System Manager rather than Internet Services Manager. NNTP configuration data is saved to Active Directory and then applied to IIS on the appropriate Exchange server by Exchange System Attendant.

Additional features are available now that NNTP is supported through Windows; for example, full-text and property indexing of newsgroup content are available through Indexing Services, which is included with IIS. You can index your news store, allowing users to search for specific messages.
