Supporting Messaging Clients

Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Integration

NNTP Service allows you to take full advantage of standard Windows 2000 Server administration tools for performance monitoring and event reporting. When you install NNTP Service the Setup program installs a complete set of performance monitor counters. All NNTP Service status and error messages are written to event logs, which you can read and print using Event Viewer. NNTP Service also includes support for Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) monitors.

NNTP Service manages access to newsgroups using security descriptors. By setting the permissions for the directory that contains a newsgroup, you control who can access that newsgroup. You can also specify anonymous access, which allows anyone to access a newsgroup.

For more information on NNTP and Windows 2000 Server, see the Windows 2000 documentation.
