To monitor current performance data, use the chart display in
Performance Monitor. To monitor performance trends, use the log
function in Performance Monitor. The log function uses the same
performance counters as the chart display, but it collects the data
at specified intervals.
To create a Performance Monitor log to monitor trends:
On the Start menu, point to
Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then
click Performance.
Expand Performance Logs and Alerts, and then click
Counter Logs.
In the details pane, right-click empty space, and then click
New Log Settings.
In Name, type a name for the log, and then click
OK.
On the General tab, click Add.
In Performance object, select NNTP Commands,
select one or more counters, and then click Add.
In Performance object, select NNTP Server, select
one or more counters, and then click Add.
Click Close.
On the General tab, use both Interval and
Units to configure the logging interval. In Interval
select a number, and in Units select the measurement of
time. An interval of 900 seconds, or 15 minutes, is recommended for
monitoring trends.
On the Log Files tab, in Location, type the path
to a directory on a drive that does not include system files.
To begin collecting data, in the details pane, right-click on
the log file, and then click Start.
