Schedule Directory Synchronization

When you schedule a synchronization, user data is exported from Exchange to GroupWise, and then user data is imported from GroupWise to Exchange immediately afterwards. In Novell GroupWise, each individual directory update is transmitted in a separate e-mail message, so directory synchronization can take a long time. If you do not need to enable e-mail addressing and delivery immediately, you can schedule directory synchronization for low network traffic times. If you need to enable e-mail addressing and delivery immediately, you can perform directory synchronization immediately to populate each directory with users from the other system.

Important   GroupWise users must be added to Active Directory on the Exchange server, or Exchange will not be able to respond to GroupWise users who query Exchange calendars.

To schedule directory synchronization:

  1. Start System Manager
On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
  2. In the console tree, double-click Connectors.
  3. Right-click Connector for Novell GroupWise (server_name), and then click Properties.
  4. Click the Dirsync Schedule tab.
  5. Note   The default setting is Never run. If you want to synchronize directory information, you must either set a synchronization schedule or manually synchronize the information by clicking Immediate full reload or Immediate update.

  6. To synchronize directory information according to one of the predefined schedules, from the drop-down menu, select a schedule.
  7. To specify your own synchronization schedule, click Customize, and then in Schedule, fill in the schedule grid.
  8. Tip   The default schedule view is one hour. To view the grid in 15-minute increments, in Detail view, select 15 Minute.

After you close Schedule, the setting Use custom schedule appears automatically in the schedule list.
