Connecting to Other Messaging Systems

Create a Recipients Policy

When you install the GroupWise connector in your organization, the GroupWise e-mail address generator creates an address of type GWISE (GroupWise_domain.Post_office.Object_ID) for each user, group, contact, and public folder in the organization. The default address is:

Exchange.First Administrative Group.%m

Caution   During directory synchronization, the connector also creates secondary proxy addresses for GroupWise recipients. These addresses, which appear not bolded in the E-Mail Addresses tab, are used as unique identifiers for GroupWise recipients. You should not delete these secondary proxy addresses; in general, you should only delete addresses that you create manually.

You can modify the user name format using the format specifiers in the following table.

Format specifier Name component
%g First name
%i Initial
%s Last name (surname)
%d Display name
%m Alias
%#specifier The number of characters for the user name. For example, the format specifier %3s for the last name Martinez generates "Mar."

To create a recipients policy:

  1. Start System Manager
On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.

Important   Although Active Directory supports Unicode characters, the e-mail address must use the Western European character set.

  6. Click the box next to the GWISE address type, so that a check mark appears. Then click Apply. Recipient Update Service will automatically generate GroupWise addresses for all users, contacts, and groups in Active Directory.
