Item Object Conversions

The following table explains how the connector converts attachments, Notes doclinks, OLE objects, and embedded messages between Exchange and Notes.

Regular attachment Attachment icon is positioned as it was in the original message. Attachment icon is positioned as it was in the original message.
Doclink You can configure three options:
  • Converted to a Rich Text Format (RTF) attachment with the icon positioned as it was in the original message. The RTF attachment is preserved.
  • Sent as an OLE Notes link. The recipient's Notes user ID must have Reader access to the document associated with the doclink and must have access to a Lotus Notes 4.x client.
  • Sent as a Web hyperlink. Each link to a Notes document, view, and database is converted to an icon representing a URL in the Exchange message. This is valid only for Lotus Notes/Domino servers. The recipient must have sufficient access.
OLE Notes links are translated back to Notes doclinks. The connector's user ID must have Reader access to the document associated with the doclink.
Exchange embedded messages Not applicable. Converted to an RTF attachment with the icon positioned as it was in the original message. By default, the connector processes three levels of embedded attachments.
Exchange message links Not applicable. Converted to an OLE object with the icon positioned as it was in the original message.
OLE Converted to an OLE object with the icon positioned as it was in the original message. Converted to an OLE object with the icon positioned as it was in the original message.
