Topology Discovery

Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Directory Access discovers the topology by locating servers running Microsoft Windows 2000 Server in your Active Directory. Directory Access tests these servers and chooses suitable servers for Exchange services to use to perform Active Directory queries.

A Directory Access topology contains three types of servers running Microsoft Windows 2000:

After Directory Access discovers the topology, it makes the topology available to Exchange services for Active Directory queries. Directory Access also gives administrators the ability to view and manipulate the topology in System Manager.
