Managing Recipient Settings

Set Message Size Limits

For mail-enabled groups, you can set the maximum size of incoming and outgoing messages. For mail-enabled users or contacts, you can set the maximum size of incoming messages only. Since message limits are set in the mail-enabled recipient's Properties dialog box, you can set message size limits on an individual basis. Message size restrictions reduce the amount of disk space required to store messages.

To set the message size limit:

  1. Start Active Directory Users and Computers
On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Active Directory Users and Computers.
  2. In the console tree, expand the Windows 2000 domain. Double-click Users, or double-click the node that contains the recipient information you want to modify.
  3. In the details pane, double-click the recipient you are setting the maximum message size for.
  4. Click the Exchange General tab.
  5. For a group, under Message size, select Maximum (KB), and then type the maximum message size allowed for messages.
  6. - or -

For a user or contact, under Receiving message size, select Use default limit, or select Maximum (KB), and then type the maximum message size allowed for incoming messages.
