Configuring Message Routing

Recipient Addresses

The recipient address is used to find the user, contact, or distribution list (DL) object associated with a recipient. Mail is then routed to the user's server, the distribution list's recipients, or the contact's target address.

Because all users are in Active Directory, they are accessible to all servers. One address space is needed by default for an entire Exchange organization.

Recipient addresses are created by default for SMTP, X.400, Microsoft Mail, Lotus cc:Mail, and Lotus Notes address types. If third-party gateways are installed, other addresses can also be generated. You can change the default recipient address by starting System Manager, selecting Recipients, selecting Recipient Policies, clicking Default Policy, and then changing the properties.
