You may need to determine the e-mail addresses and other
information about your Instant Messaging users.
- Start Active Directory Users and Computers
On the Start menu, point to
Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then
click Active Directory Users and Computers.
- In the console tree, select the Windows 2000 domain that
contains the Instant Messaging users you want.
- On the Action menu, click Find.
- On Find Users, Contacts, and Groups, from the
Find drop-down list, select Users, Contacts, and
Groups, and then in the In drop-down list, select the
domain you want to search. To search Active Directory, select
Entire Directory.
- On the Advanced tab, click Field, click
User, and then click one of the following:
- Instant Messaging URL
- Instant Messaging Home Server URL
- Instant Messaging Address (if present)
- In Condition, select one of the following prerequisites
in the drop-down list:
- Starts with
- Ends with
- Is (exactly)
- Is not
- Present
- Not present
- In Value, type the appropriate criterion.
For example, if your selection in Condition is Ends
with, in Value, you might type
@computer-store.store.

Tip Your entries might be
similar to these suggestions:
- To find all users enabled for Instant Messaging, select
Instant Messaging URL and the condition Present.
- To find all users homed on a given server, select Instant
Messaging Home Server URL, the condition Starts with,
and type the value "http://servername." For example, if your server
is called GlobalHQ, type the value "http://GlobalHQ."
- To find all users in an Instant Messaging domain, select
Instant Messaging URL, the condition Starts with, and
type the value "http://Instant_Messaging_Domain_Name." For example,
to find all users in the Instant Messaging domain
"im.microsoft.com," the value entry would be
"http://im.microsoft.com."
- After you have typed the appropriate criteria in Field,
Condition, and Value, click Add.
- When your search criteria appear in the lower window, click
Find Now.
The search results, sorted by Name, Alias, and
Internet E-Mail Address, appear in a new window at the
bottom of the screen.
Note If the search yields no
matches, the message, No items match the current search
appears.
