Find Instant Messaging Users on Your Network

You may need to determine the e-mail addresses and other information about your Instant Messaging users.

To find Instant Messaging users on your network:

  1. Start Active Directory Users and Computers
    On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Active Directory Users and Computers.
  2. In the console tree, select the Windows 2000 domain that contains the Instant Messaging users you want.
  3. On the Action menu, click Find.
  4. On Find Users, Contacts, and Groups, from the Find drop-down list, select Users, Contacts, and Groups, and then in the In drop-down list, select the domain you want to search. To search Active Directory, select Entire Directory.
  5. On the Advanced tab, click Field, click User, and then click one of the following:
  6. In Condition, select one of the following prerequisites in the drop-down list:
  7. In Value, type the appropriate criterion.

    For example, if your selection in Condition is Ends with, in Value, you might type @computer-store.store.

  8. Tip   Your entries might be similar to these suggestions:

  9. After you have typed the appropriate criteria in Field, Condition, and Value, click Add.
  10. When your search criteria appear in the lower window, click Find Now.

    The search results, sorted by Name, Alias, and Internet E-Mail Address, appear in a new window at the bottom of the screen.

    Note   If the search yields no matches, the message, No items match the current search appears.
