Take a Server Offline for Maintenance

You normally take a server offline only for maintenance. To take an Instant Messaging server offline, you must stop the corresponding IIS virtual server.

Caution   Stopping a virtual server stops all services contained within that virtual server.

To take a server offline:

1. Start Internet Services Manager
   On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Services Manager.
2. Go to the virtual IIS server on which the Instant Messaging server is hosted.
3. Right-click the site, and then click Stop.

Important   All Instant Messaging is interrupted abruptly when the server is stopped.
