Associate Exchange 2000 Mailboxes with External Domain Accounts
When you use Migration Wizard to migrate mailboxes, you can associate Exchange 2000 mailboxes with accounts on an external domain, which is a domain that is not in the same forest as Exchange 2000. When you choose the Associate with accounts in an external domain option, you are given the additional option of creating new accounts in the external domain.
Important A trust relationship must exist between the external domain and the Windows 2000 domain where Exchange 2000 is installed.
The option to associate Exchange 2000 mailboxes with accounts in an external domain is helpful when you have multiple forests or when you have existing Windows NT 4.0 domains where user accounts reside, and you want to do the following:
Note The external domain is always either a Windows NT 4.0 domain or a Windows 2000 domain in a separate forest.
Important The administrator account typed in Administrator account must have permissions to create new accounts on an external domain.
To associate Exchange 2000 mailboxes with users on an external domain:
Note Migration Wizard will not create a new account on the external domain if a matching account is found on the external domain.
