Outlook Web Access

Segment Outlook Web Access by Server

Some Exchange organizations may want to enable or disable certain components of Outlook Web Access. For example, it is possible for Outlook Web Access users to send and receive email, but not be able to view or configure their calendars or contact information. Using the bitmask table below, you can turn off and on any combination of Outlook Web Access features.

Warning    Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it, and you should also update your Emergency Repair Disk (ERD).

To segment Outlook Web Access functionality in your organization:

Note   This procedure describes how to segment Outlook Web Access for all mailboxes on a computer running Exchange server. Segmenting can also be done on a per-user basis, see Segment Outlook Web Access.

  1. On the Start menu, click Run, type Regedt32.exe, and then click OK.
  2. In Registry Editor, under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE on Local Machine, go to SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeWEB\OWA.
  3. On the Edit menu, select Add Value.
  4. In Add Value, type DefaultMailboxFOlderSet as the value name, select REG_DWORD as the data type, and then click OK.
  5. In DWORD Editor, in the Data field, type in a Decimal value based on the following bit mask table. The table displays the decimal values for all Outlook Web Access features. Add the values for all Outlook Web Access features that you want to activate, and then enter the sum. For example, according to the table the decimal value for contacts is 4, the decimal value for calendaring is 2, and the decimal value for messaging is 1. To enable Contacts, Calendar, and Inbox for all Outlook Web Access users on this Exchange server, you would add the values and enter the decimal value of 7 in the Data field. Enlarge figure
