Outlook Web Access

Set Public Folder Posting Size Limit

When Outlook Web Access users post items to your organization's public folders, the posts are saved on the computer running Exchange in a temporary location, a folder called OWAScratchPad. The default maximum size for any item stored in this folder is 1024 kilobytes (KB). This means Outlook Web Access users cannot post any item larger than 1024 KB to a public folder.

Use the following procedure to change this limit. Increasing the size limit will allow Outlook Web Access users to post larger items to public folders, while decreasing the size limit will prevent Outlook Web Access users from posting any item that is larger than the limit you set.

Note   The OWA Scratch Pad limit only applies to items posted to public folders through Outlook Web Access. The limit you set here will not apply to items posted through Outlook, NNTP, or other means.

To configure the size limit for Outlook Web Access public folder postings:

  1. Start System Manager
On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
  2. Navigate to Public Folders.

    Administrative Groups

Note   GUID is the globally unique identifier for the OWAScratchPad folder on this Exchange server.

  5. In OWAScratchPad{GUID}, click the Limits tab.
  6. Under Storage limits, make sure Maximum item size (KB) is selected, and then, in the Maximum item size (KB) text box, type the number of kilobytes you want your limit to be. Outlook Web Access users will not be able to post any item to public folders that is larger than the value you enter.
