In previous versions of Exchange, public folders supported
mapping an Internet newsgroup to
an individual folder. This allowed users of public folders access
to Usenet newsgroups using MAPI or Network News Transfer Protocol
(NNTP) clients. Posts to the folder were propagated externally to
the newsgroups and Exchange supported incoming push feeds and
outgoing push or pull feeds. Now, Exchange 2000 provides the
capability to create virtual directories for NNTP virtual servers.
It is no longer necessary to administer a newsgroup through public
folders. For more information, see Network News Transport
Protocol.
