Set Storage Limits

You can use the Limits tab to control the maximum size of folders, set the retention period for deleted messages, and set message age limits. Setting age limits and warnings on message storage limits can help you conserve disk space. By default, all settings use the public store defaults.

To customize limits for a specific folder:

  1. Start System Manager
    On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
  2. If administrative groups are displayed, expand Administrative Groups, and then expand the group you want to work with.
  3. In the console tree, expand Folders, and then expand the folder tree containing the folder you want.
  4. Right-click a folder, and then click Properties.
  5. Click the Limits tab.
  6. Click once to deselect the Use public store defaults check box if it is selected. Then set the following options:

    Storage Issue warning at (KB) A number of Kilobytes (KB) from 1 to 2097151.
    Deleted item retention Delete after (days) A number of days from 1 to 24855. All folder contents are permanently deleted after the specified number of days.
    Age limits Age limit for all folders in this store (days) A number of days from 1 to 24855. All folders belonging to the same store as this folder are permanently deleted if they remain until the specified number of days.
