Set the Masquerade Domain

The masquerade domain replaces any local domain name used in any Mail From lines in the protocol. The replacement occurs on the first hop only.

The Mail From line refers to the SMTP message heading information. It is the address NDRs will be sent to, and is not the From line displayed by the receiving client. The From line displayed by e-mail clients is in the message body, which a masquerade domain name does not affect.

  1. Start System Manager
    On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
  2. Navigate to the SMTP virtual server.

  3. Right-click the SMTP virtual server, and then click Properties.
  4. On the Delivery tab, click Advanced.
  5. In Advanced Delivery, in Masquerade domain, type the domain name where you would like NDRs to be sent. This will replace the actual domain name in outgoing message heading information.
