Add or Remove an Exchange Snap-In

You administer Exchange using the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-ins System Manager and Computer Management. You use additional MMC snap-ins for specific objects.

To add a snap-in to a console, you must open the console in Author mode. By default, System Manager is not saved in Author mode.

To add an Exchange snap-in:

  1. Navigate to the \Exchsrvr\Bin directory on your Exchange server.

    1. \Program Files
    2. \Exchsrvr
    3. \Bin
  2. Right-click Exchange System Manager.msc and then click Author.
  3. In System Manager, click Console, and then click Add/Remove Snap-in.
  4. In Snap-ins added to, select an item in the console tree to which to add the snap-in, and then click Add.
  5. Click an Exchange snap-in, and then click Add. Depending on the snap-in, you may be given the option to change domain controllers.
  6. Click Close.
  7. To save the console in Author mode, click Console, and then click Save.

To remove an Exchange snap-in:

Note   This procedure requires a System Manager console saved in Author mode.

  1. Start System Manager
    On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
  2. Click Console, and then click Add/Remove Snap-in.
  3. In Snap-ins added to, select an item in the console tree from which to remove the snap-in, and then click Remove.
