Manage a Server With System Manager

System Manager is an MMC console file named Exchange System Manager.msc. It is available on the Start menu of the Microsoft Exchange program group. System Manager provides a graphical two-pane view of Exchange objects with a console tree on the left and a details pane on the right. You can view context menus for each object by right-clicking the object. You can move some objects using a drag-and-drop operation.

Support for administrative groups is disabled by default when your organization is in native mode and is enabled by default when your organization is in mixed mode. Support for routing groups is disabled by default. The initial single administrative group may be sufficient for most companies.

To start System Manager:

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. Type the full path and file name for the Exchange System Manager, for example, D:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\Bin\Exchange System Manager.msc, and then click OK.

To enable administrative groups:

  1. Start System Manager
    On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
  2. Right-click the top organization container in the console tree, and then click Properties.
  3. On the General Tab, click Display administrative groups.

To enable routing groups:

  1. Start System Manager
    On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
  2. Right-click the top organization container in the console tree, and then click Properties.
  3. On the General Tab, click Display routing groups.

To navigate to server objects:

  1. Start System Manager
    On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
  2. Open the Servers container in the console tree.

    1. Administrative Group or Organization
    2. Servers
  3. Open a server container. The Protocols and storage groups containers appear.
