When you create connections to other messaging systems, the exchange of e-mail and other information between Exchange and the other messaging system is transparent to the user, even if the two systems function differently. Users can exchange information successfully when the directories of the two systems are synchronized.

You may experience specific problems when managing connections to other mail systems; for example, your users on the other system may be unable to send messages to and receive messages from Exchange, or you may have finished installing a connector and synchronization is not working.
