The Microsoft® Exchange Server Analyzer Tool reads the following registry value to determine whether the interval at which the Exchange store removes items that have exceeded the retention period has been modified from its default setting:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\<ServerName>\Public-<Public Folder GUID>\Replication Expiry

If the Exchange Server Analyzer finds that the Replication Expiry registry value is present and configured, a non-default configuration message is displayed.

Message expiration is the process of expiring messages in public folders that exceed a specified time value. The default interval for message expiration is 24 hours.

To revert to the default configuration

  1. Open a registry editor, such as Regedit.exe or Regedt32.exe.

  2. Navigate to: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\<ServerName>\Public-<Public Folder GUID>

  3. Delete the Replication Expiry registry value.

  4. Restart the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service for the change to take effect.
