The Microsoft® Exchange Server Analyzer Tool queries the Active Directory® directory service to determine the value of the versionNumber attribute on each Active Directory Connector (ADC) connection agreement.

If the Exchange Server Analyzer finds the value for the versionNumber attribute of any connection agreement is less than 16973842 in an Exchange organization that contains one or more Exchange Server 2003 computers, a warning is displayed.

A value less than 16973842 indicates that the connection agreement has been created and is being managed by an Exchange 2000 Server ADC. If you are running any instances of Exchange Server 2003 in your organization where either Exchange 2000 Server or Exchange Server 5.5 are running, you must upgrade all instances of ADC to the version that is included with Exchange Server 2003. After upgrading to Exchange Server 2003 or the Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) version of ADC, the connection agreements owned by that version of ADC will also be updated. The versionNumber attribute of each connection agreement will be updated with the latest value.

To correct this warning

  1. Download Exchange Server 2003 SP1 from http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=29090.

  2. Perform a complete backup of the Exchange Server computer.

  3. On your server that is running Exchange 2000 Server ADC, click Start, click Run, and then type <path>\adc\i386\setup.exe, where <path> is the location of the Exchange Server 2003 SP1 download.

  4. On the Welcome to the Active Directory Connector Installation Wizard page, click Next.

  5. On the Previous Installation Detected page, click Reinstall to upgrade your Exchange 2000 Server ADC to the Exchange Server 2003 ADC.

  6. On the Completing the Active Directory Connector Installation Wizard page, click Finish.
