The Microsoft Exchange Database Troubleshooter tool detected one or more MSExchangeIS 9518 events with error code 0xfffffbf8 in the Application log. This indicates that the folder or drive that contains the Exchange database(s) does not have the appropriate permissions assigned to them.

Explanation

This error indicates that the folder or drive that hosts the Exchange database files does not have the permissions assigned that are required to perform minimum functions. You may experience difficulties in accessing or mounting the mailbox stores or public folder stores.

User Action

To resolve the issue, grant the default permissions to the folder that contains the Exchange databases and to the drive on which this folder resides.

To grant the default permissions to the folder that contains the Exchange databases in Exchange 2007
  1. Start Windows Explorer, and then navigate to the folder that contains the Exchange databases. By default this is C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange\Mailbox\Storage Group Name\

  2. Right-click that folder and then click Properties.

  3. Click the Security tab, and then grant the following default permissions

Administrators

Full Control

System

To grant the default permissions to the drive that contains the Exchange databases in Exchange 2007
  1. Start Windows Explorer.

  2. Right-click the Local Disk object that contains the Exchange database folder, and then click Properties.

  3. Select the Security tab, and then grant the following default permissions, depending on the operating system installed:
