The Microsoft® Exchange Server Analyzer Tool queries the Win32_Service Microsoft Windows® Management Instrumentation (WMI) class to determine the value set for the Started key for the SMSMSE (Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange) service.
A value of True indicates that Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Server is installed on this Exchange Server computer and that the SMSMSE service is running. A value of False indicates that the SMSMSE service is not running.
The Exchange Server Analyzer also queries the Win32_Service WMI class to determine whether the value set for the Started key in the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service is set to True or False.
A value of False indicates that the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service is not running on this Exchange Server computer. A value of True indicates that the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service is running.
If the Exchange Server Analyzer finds that the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service is running, and that Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange is installed, but the SMSMSE service is not running, a warning is displayed.
One of the significant threats to your environment is viruses transmitted through e-mail messages. E-mail viruses may attack the computer systems themselves, or they may attack the e-mail environment, by flooding the system with messages to the point of overload. You need to ensure that you have sufficient protection against viruses in your environment. You should consider protecting against viruses at the firewall, at or outside the SMTP gateway, at each Exchange server and on every client.
