The Microsoft® Exchange Server Analyzer Tool queries the Active Directory® directory service to determine whether the msExchPrivateMDB attribute has a default public folder store that is assigned to the mailbox store.

The msExchPrivateMDB attribute is a private database configuration for a mailbox store object. By default, the msExchHomePublicMDB attribute is associated with a mailbox store. The msExchPrivateMDB attribute is the home public message database (MDB).

If the Exchange Server Analyzer finds that the msExchHomePublicMDB attribute is deleted or configured incorrectly, the Exchange Server Analyzer displays an error.

Each mailbox store must be associated with a default public folder store, either on the local server or another server. For each mailbox-enabled user who is supported by a particular mailbox store, the associated public folder store is the user's home public folder store. If you can, use the default public folder store on the same server as the mailbox store.

Note:
By using the default public folder store on the same server as the mailbox store, you may improve performance when users access public folders and simplify troubleshooting of public folder access problems.
To assign a default public folder store to mailbox store

  1. In Exchange System Manager, right-click the storage group where the Mailbox Store resides.

  2. Right-click the mailbox store, and then click Properties.

  3. On the General tab, in Default Public folder store, click Browse and select the public folder store that you want to associate with this mailbox store.

    Note:
    If you are creating a new mailbox store, Exchange Server automatically selects a default public store, which is associated with the Public Folders tree, and an offline address book, which users will download for offline use.
