The Microsoft® Exchange Server Best Practices Analyzer Tool can affect the performance of the following computers in your Exchange organization:
- The computer on which Exchange Server Best Practices Analyzer
is running
- The server that is running the Active Directory® directory
service
- The Exchange servers that the tool accesses
Performance on the computer that is running Exchange Server Best Practices Analyzer
The Exchange Server Best Practices Analyzer will use the following resources on the computer on which it is running:
- 5 to 10 megabytes (MB) of RAM for each server that the
tool scans
- 50 to 75 percent CPU during the scan of the Exchange
organization
- 0.5 to 2 MB of disk space used for extensible markup
language (XML) data
For more information about choosing which computer to install and run Exchange Server Best Practices Analyzer on, see Installing.
Performance on the Active Directory server
Exchange Server Best Practices Analyzer will use the following resources on the Active Directory server:
- 25 to 50 percent CPU during the time that the tool accesses the
Active Directory server
Note: |
---|
The tool will access the Active Directory server sporadically, with each access interval lasting an average of 10 to 15 seconds. The interval will be longer on very large Exchange organizations. |
Performance on the Exchange servers
You will not notice any significant performance degradation on the Exchange servers while the Exchange Server Best Practices Analyzer scans the organization.
Note: |
---|
The time that the tool will take to gather data from an Exchange server will vary depending on the load on the Exchange server and the network speed. On slow networks, the tool will take an hour or more to gather data. On fast networks, the tool will take less than ten minutes to gather data. |
