The Microsoft® Exchange Server Analyzer Tool checks the registry to see if the Enable Tracing registry entry exists along with the Trace User LegacyDN registry value. Both these registry values are present under the following registry key:

If the Exchange Server Analyzer finds that both registry entries are present and configured, a warning is displayed.

The Enable Tracing DWORD registry value enables the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service for tracing. Tracing is used in troubleshooting Exchange store startup issues and can severely affect performance. Unless you are troubleshooting a problem, do not use this registry setting. Tracing can be enabled for specific users (filtered tracing) by adding the Trace User LegacyDN registry string value. If the Trace User LegacyDN value is not present, tracing is enabled for all users. If the Trace User LegacyDN value is present, tracing is being done for the specific users listed under that key.

If troubleshooting is not being performed on the Exchange Server computer, these registry values should not be present.

This article contains information about editing the registry. Before you edit the registry, make sure you understand how to restore the registry if a problem occurs. For information about how to restore the registry, view the "Restore the Registry" Help topic in Regedit.exe or Regedt32.exe.
