Public folders are a shared repository for messages, calendars, contacts, tasks, and other items. A public folder database is an Exchange database that stores public folders, indexes their contents, and assists in the replication of the folders with other Exchange servers. A public folder database is stored as an Exchange database (.edb) file.

When you select the Mailbox node under Organization Configuration, the Database Management tab in the result pane displays a list of all databases on the selected server.

To focus on a set of items in the result pane that have specific attributes, you can use a variety of expressions to filter the list. For more information about filters, see Filter the Result Pane.

When you select a public folder database in the result pane, the following actions are available either by right-clicking the database name or by using the action pane.

Mount Database or Dismount Database

Click Mount Database to mount the selected database. A database is not accessible to users until it is mounted.

Click Dismount Database to dismount the selected database. Dismounting a database makes it inaccessible to all users.

For more information, see Create a Public Folder Database.

Move Database Path

Click Move Database Path to open the Move Database Path wizard. This wizard helps you change the location of the public folder database files.

For more information, see Move the Database Path.
