This topic explains how to use the Failover Cluster Management tool to configure the cluster quorum for a failover cluster. After both nodes have been added to the cluster, and after the cluster networking components have been configured, the failover cluster quorum should be configured. Specifically, we recommend that you configure the cluster to use a Node and Disk Majority quorum.
Before You Begin
To perform this procedure, the account you use must be delegated the following:
- Membership in the local Administrators group on both nodes in
- Full control permissions for the cluster
For more information about permissions, delegating roles, and the rights that are required to administer Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, see Permission Considerations.
To use the Failover Cluster Management tool to configure a Node and Disk Majority quorum
Open the Failover Cluster Management tool.
Right-click the cluster node, select More Actions, and then select Configure Cluster Quorum Settings. The Configure Cluster Quorum Wizard starts.
If this is the first time this Wizard has been run in the cluster, the Before You Begin page appears. There is an option to hide this page on subsequent uses of the Wizard, so the first page to appear might instead be the Select Quorum Configuration page. If the Before You Begin page is displayed, read the information on that page, and click Next to continue.
On the Select Quorum Configuration page, select Node and Disk Majority (recommended for your current number of nodes), and then click Next.
On the Configure Storage Witness page, select the storage volume (disk) you want to assign as the disk witness. Only one disk can be selected. The disk witness is the equivalent of the quorum resource that was in previous versions of Windows failover clusters. After you select the disk, click Next.
On the Confirmation page, verify that the configuration changes about to be made are correct. If any changes need to be made, click Previous to navigate to previous pages and make the necessary corrections. Otherwise, click Next to configure the Node and Disk Majority quorum.
The configured changes will be made with progress status displayed on the Configure Cluster Quorum Settings page. After the configuration changes have been completed successfully, the Summary page is displayed.
Review the details on the Summary page. Click Finish to close the Configure Cluster Quorum Wizard.
After the cluster quorum has been configured, we recommend that you validate the cluster before installing Exchange 2007. For detailed steps about how to validate the cluster, see How to Validate a Failover Cluster Configuration for a Single Copy Cluster.
