Topic Last Modified: 2006-11-13
This topic explains how to update the content filter data for computers that are running Microsoft Exchange Server 2007. Content filter updates contain updated data about phishing Web sites, Microsoft SmartScreen spam heuristics, and other Intelligent Message Filter updates. Content filter updates are generally about 6 MB and contain data that is useful for longer periods of time than other updated spam data. Content filter updates are published every two weeks through Microsoft Update.
Before You Begin
To perform the following procedures on a computer that has the Edge Transport server role installed, you must log on by using an account that is a member of the local Administrators group on that computer.
Procedure
To update content filter data
-
On the computer where you want to update the content filter data, visit Microsoft Update.
Note: Microsoft Update requires a one-time opt-in process. If you have not yet opted in to Microsoft Update, the Microsoft Update link will take you to the Microsoft Windows Update Web site. Microsoft Update only updates binaries and data for the Windows operating system. To keep Microsoft Exchange and the content filter data up-to-date, you must opt in to Microsoft Update. If you haven't visited Windows Update before, you may have to install a Microsoft ActiveX control. -
If you have not opted in to Microsoft Update, follow the link to Microsoft Update.
-
On the Keep your computer up to date page, click Custom.
-
On the Customize your results page, find the Exchange link in the left pane under Select by Product. If no Exchange link exists, the latest updates have already been installed on the computer. Otherwise, click the Exchange link.
-
On the Select Updates for Exchange Server page, select Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Standard Anti-spam Filter Updates, and then click Review and install updates.
