This topic explains how to use Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) and the Exchange Management Shell to rename an Outlook Web Access Web site.

Before You Begin

To perform this procedure, the account you use must be delegated the Exchange Server Administrator role and membership in the local Administrators group for the target server.

For more information about permissions, delegating roles, and the rights that are required to administer Exchange Server 2007, see Permission Considerations.

Procedure

An Outlook Web Access Web site cannot be directly renamed. To rename an Outlook Web Access Web site, you must remove the associated Outlook Web Access virtual directories, use IIS to rename the Web site, and then re-create the Outlook Web Access virtual directories.

Important:
Do not rename the Web site that is used by Exchange ActiveSync.

To use the Exchange Management Shell and IIS to rename an Outlook Web Access Web site

  1. Remove the Outlook Web Access virtual directories that are associated with the Web site that you want to rename. For more information, see How to Remove an Outlook Web Access Virtual Directory.

  2. Open IIS Manager, locate the Web Sites/<Web site to be renamed> directory. Right-click <Web site to be renamed>, and then click Rename.

  3. Enter the new name and press ENTER.

  4. Create new Outlook Web Access virtual directories to replace the virtual directories that were deleted in Step 1. For more information, see How to Create an Outlook Web Access Virtual Directory in Exchange 2007.

  5. Open a command prompt, and then type iisreset /noforce to stop and start IIS.

For more information about syntax and parameters, see Remove-OwaVirtualDirectory and New-OwaVirtualDirectory.
