Use the Configuration Domain Controller dialog box to specify a domain controller to use to read and write to the Active Directory directory service if you modify any server or organization configuration.

Domain

Click Browse to open the Select Domain dialog box. Use this dialog box to select a domain in your Active Directory forest. You must select a domain before you can select a domain controller.

Configuration Domain Controller
  • After you select a domain, select this check box to specify a domain controller.

    Note:
This check box is not available until you specify a domain.
  • After you select the Configuration Domain Controller check box, click Browse to select the domain controller you want to use when modifying server or organization configuration.

    Note:
Browse is not available until you select the Configuration Domain Controller check box.
  • To modify this setting so that no single domain controller is set to perform all server and organization configuration changes, clear the Configuration Domain Controller check box, and then click OK. If this check box is cleared, the domain controller used to perform configuration changes will be the domain controller to which the computer is currently connected. To view the domain controller to which a computer is currently connected, use the netstat command from a Command Prompt window and search for LDAP in the Protocol column. For more information about netstat, see Netstat in the Microsoft Windows Server TechCenter.
