There are a variety of mobile devices that can use Exchange ActiveSync to synchronize with Microsoft Exchange Server 2007. You can manage the various devices that synchronize with Exchange 2007 by using Exchange ActiveSync mailbox policies. You can manage Exchange ActiveSync properties for devices by using the Exchange Management Shell or the Exchange Management Console.
Managing Exchange ActiveSync Devices
By default, if the Client Access server role is installed in an Exchange Server 2007 organization, Exchange ActiveSync is enabled for all users. A user can configure any device that supports Exchange ActiveSync to synchronize with the Exchange server.
To simplify management of your Exchange ActiveSync devices, you can create Exchange ActiveSync mailbox policies. These policies can be applied to each Exchange ActiveSync user and can help you apply specific settings to a user's device. You can require that all devices accept the Exchange ActiveSync mailbox policy before they can synchronize with the Exchange server. Some of the available settings include the following:
- Require a password
- Require an alphanumeric password
- Allow attachments to be downloaded to the device
- Allow access to
Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services documents
- Enable device encryption

Administrative permissions are required to manage the computer that is running Exchange 2007 that has the Client Access server role installed.
