This topic describes how to prepare to manage disk volumes in a standby continuous replication (SCR) environment and control when a volume is accessible to the SCR solution.

SCR continuously checks and accesses the copy unless replication and replay are stopped for the copy. If you need to manipulate the disk volumes, you must first stop replication.

Before You Begin

To perform this procedure, the account you use must be delegated the Exchange Server Administrator role. For more information about permissions, delegating roles, and the rights that are required to administer Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, see Permission Considerations.

Depending on the volume management task that you want to perform, local administrator permissions may be required. To determine the appropriate permissions for the desired storage management tasks, see your storage vendor's documentation.

Procedure

To prepare for managing disk volumes when using SCR

  1. Halt replication and replay by following the procedures detailed in How to Suspend Changes to a Standby Continuous Replication Target.

  2. For the procedures for performing the desired volume management tasks, refer to your storage vendor's documentation.

  3. After the disk management activities are complete, resume replication and replay by following the procedures detailed in How to Resume Replication to a Standby Continuous Replication Target.
